Classes LMS 3rd Party Publisher Security Enhancement
The Department of Academic Technology will be conducting a necessary security enhancement upgrade in connection with some of the 3rd-party publishers used in Classes LMS during the first two weeks of January 2023.
Some 3rd-party publisher tools that will be affected by the change are: McGraw-Hill, Pearson, Macmillan, WileyPlus, and Cengage.
If you are using these tools for your spring 2023 courses, we strongly advise waiting to connect the publisher content with your spring courses until after January 13th. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this necessary update. Additional benefits from the update besides security enhancements include, but are not limited to:
- Assignment and Grade service (AGS):
- Supports multiple grade items linked to the same LTI link, removing the need for the LTI tool to use Brightspace APIs to support this workflow.
- Support for comment pass back from the external tool to the Classes LMS Gradebook.
- Support for the external tool to request updated grades from the Classes LMS Gradebook to keep the tool’s grades in sync.
- Deep Linking:
- Support for the optional start, end, and due dates that can be applied at the content topic level.
(The availability of specific features is based solely upon the platform and tools in use.)
We thank you for your patience in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns please email us at Acadtech@pace.edu.
Classes LMS Course Archive Notice
In order to maintain a streamlined, easily navigable Classes LMS environment, the Department of Academic Technology will resume the process of archiving, and eventually deleting, courses from previous semesters. Please make note of our archival policies:
- Courses taught within the last three years will be accessible as usual in Classes LMS.
- Courses from the three years prior to the three-year period accessible in Classes LMS will be archived, and accessible to faculty only by emailing us at acadtech@pace.edu with your request. To fulfill an archive retrieval request, we require both the five-digit CRN and the semester of the desired course.
- When a course is more than six years old, it is permanently deleted.
These policies mean that at any given time, faculty have access to the previous six years of Classes LMS courses. You can also create course export and archive files yourself, by following the steps in our tutorial: https://helpdesk.pace.edu/TDClient/213/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=10850
Please note that the files produced in this manner are not usable in the normal sense. They can be provided to the Academic Technology Department to reconstruct your course, but cannot be directly opened to access, for example, Word files and PDFs uploaded to the course.
