Pace University emphasizes the importance of information security and data privacy. Faculty and staff are urged to stay vigilant in both your Pace and personal settings. One of the latest threats to be aware of is the use of Deepfakes and Vishing scams in phone calls. Deepfakes use AI and machine learning to create realistic synthetic media, including cloned voices, to deceive individuals into revealing sensitive information.

How to Detect Common Scams

  • If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Always be skeptical of offers that seem unusually generous or promising.
  • ALWAYS verify. Check links, information, messages, and requests for sensitive information. Don’t take anything at face value.
  • Hang up and contact the person you know from a number you know is theirs. If you receive a suspicious call, it’s best to hang up and reach out to the person directly using a known and trusted contact method.
  • Check for inconsistencies. Look for any discrepancies or odd details that don’t add up.

Stay up to date on the latest security awareness training. Regularly update your knowledge on security practices to stay ahead of scammers.
